Being that I one day hope to be a costume designer, I always look forward to films where the costumes are a focal point. There is no doubt that the upcoming film “The Help,” in theatres August 10th, will feature gorgeous costumes from the 1960s. This film is based on the #1 New York Times Bestseller written by Kathryn Stockett. The story is about a secret writing project that gives “the help” in the 1960s a voice. The cast includes Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Viola Davis, and Allison Janney.
Costume Designer Sharen Davis brings the 1960s to life through the art of costume design:
Emma Stone’s character, Skeeter:
I adore Hilly’s (Bryce Dallas Howard) floral print dresses!

When I design, I love using scallop details, as seen on Allison Janney’s costume:
I love the back pleating detail on Hilly’s floral dress:
I cannot wait to see this movie, not only for the costumes, but for the story as well!
cheers! andrea ♥
