‘The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of my all time favorite books. I have been highly anticipating the release of Baz Luhrmann’s film version, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire. I am in love with 1920s fashion, and I am just as excited to see all the costumes as I am to see Leo as Gatsby. The costumes were designed by Costume Designer Catherine Martin, who is known for designing films such as Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet. Here is the first trailer!

Earlier this evening, the 2012 Golden Globe awards were held here in Southern California at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. It was a star studded and fashionable event for Hollywood. A huge trend seen on the red carpet was blush tone dresses with a romantic feel, which I absolutely adore! It sure was a great night for fashion.
My pick for best dressed female is Charlize Theron, who wore a GORGEOUS Dior gown.

You can turn “Something Borrowed” into something new this Tuesday, August 16th, because the best-selling novel turned movie will be released on dvd/blu-ray! Make sure to pick up your Blu-Ray/DVD + Digital Copy Combo Pack of the film to re-live the complex and touching relationships between Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin), Darcy (Kate Hudson), Dex (Colin Egglesfield), and Ethan (John Krasinski).
Also, if you have yet to read the book by author Emily Giffin, it’s a must read! As is the sequel, “Something Blue.” Two of my personal favorite books!
Hairspray is coming to the famous Hollywood Bowl in California this weekend, August 5th-7th!
The cast is sensational, including two of the original Broadway stars: Marissa Jaret Winokur (Tracy Turnblad) and Harvey Fierstein (Edna Turnblad). Other members of the cast include Nick Jonas (Link Larkin), John Stamos (Corny Collins), Diana DeGarmo (Penny Pingleton), Drew Carey (Wilbur Turnblad), Corbin Bleu (Seaweed J. Stubbs), Michael McDonald (Mr. Pinky), Mo Gaffney (Prudy Pingleton), Darlene Love (Motormouth Maybelle), and Tara Macri (Amber Von Tussle).
Hairspray is one of my absolute favorite movies, and I have been wanting to see the show live for many years. I am so thrilled to be going this Sunday at the Bowl! There are two versions of the film. The original starred Ricki Lake in 1988, and the 2007 re-make starred Nikki Blonsky, John Travolta, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow, and James Marsden, etc:
Hairspray is set in Baltimore, in the 1960s. For a better idea of what the story is about, here is the 2007 trailer:
Hopefully, many of you will be able to make it to the Hollywood Bowl this weekend! For tickets, visit ticketmaster.com.
Being that I one day hope to be a costume designer, I always look forward to films where the costumes are a focal point. There is no doubt that the upcoming film “The Help,” in theatres August 10th, will feature gorgeous costumes from the 1960s. This film is based on the #1 New York Times Bestseller written by Kathryn Stockett. The story is about a secret writing project that gives “the help” in the 1960s a voice. The cast includes Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Viola Davis, and Allison Janney.
Costume Designer Sharen Davis brings the 1960s to life through the art of costume design:Emma Stone’s character, Skeeter: I adore Hilly’s (Bryce Dallas Howard) floral print dresses! When I design, I love using scallop details, as seen on Allison Janney’s costume:I love the back pleating detail on Hilly’s floral dress:I cannot wait to see this movie, not only for the costumes, but for the story as well!
