Costume Exhibit at The Paley Center: Photo Review

14 Jun

On Friday, June 10th, I attended an amazing costume exhibit at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, CA. Debbie Reynolds has acquired a magnificent collection of iconic Hollywood costumes and memorabilia over the past 50 years. On display were 600 of the over 4,000 items she has collected. She is now putting them all up for auction, which will be held on June 18, 2011. For more information on how you can see this collection, ending June 17th, please refer to my previous post. Below are photographs I took at the exhibit. It was thrilling to see costumes from such movies as My Fair Lady, To Catch a Thief, Funny Girl, The Sound of Music, The Seven Year Itch, and Meet Me in St. Louis, to name a few!

At the exhibit, I purchased an incredible book signed by Debbie Reynolds! It is 1 of 250 signed copies. It features photographs all the items on display, as well as the dozens more up for auction that were not seen at the exhibit. The book includes detailed descriptions of every garment including information about the scenes in which they were featured, fabric used, and other unique qualities of the items. It will be a great resource for me as a fashion design student and eventually (hopefully 🙂 ) a costume designer one day.

cheers to costume design! andrea ♥
