Will & Kate: Wax Figures at Madame Tussauds

4 Apr

This morning in London, wax figures of Will and Kate, the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, were unveiled at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum to celebrate their one year marriage anniversary on April 29th. According to the UK’s Daily Mail, the statues took four months to create and cost £150,000 each, approximately $200,000. The figures depict Will and Kate on the day they officially announced their engagement.

Kate’s figure is seen wearing the navy Issa dress from that day. Issa created an exact replica of the dress specifically for Madame Tussauds. She is also seen wearing a recreation of the sapphire and diamond ring that once belonged to Princess Diana. William is seen wearing a Gieves and Hawkes navy two piece single breasted suit recreated by the renowned tailors. The Duke and Duchess’ figures are located in a Royal area of the museum in a throne room setting. Nearby are wax figures of Her Majesty The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, as well as Princess Harry and the late Princess Diana. A photo was captured showing Princess Diana’s figure seen to be looking over to the couple fondly.According to the Daily Mail, queues, or lines as we call them in America, have already been forming on Baker Street where the museum is located in London. On a personal note, when I lived in London, I passed by this museum many times on my way to University, but never went inside. Now I have a great reason to pop in when I’m there this summer.

Two other sets of figures are also being launched in Amsterdam and New York today, and another set of figures will be unveiled in Blackpool, UK on April 18th. The New York figures feature Kate a recreation of her pale lavender floor-length Alexander McQueen gown she wore at the BAFTA Brits To Watch event in Los Angeles, which I was lucky enough to see her in person at, and the below picture is of them waving to where I was standing. William’s figure is seen wearing a replica of his tuxedo from that event.

Madame Tussauds Amsterdam will feature Kate’s look from her recent appearance at the War Horse premiere where she wore a black, lace Alice Temperley gown.
I look forward to seeing the unveiling of the Blackpool figures on April 18, 2012, which will feature Kate in a replica of the Jenny Packham dress from her appearance at the ARK, Absolute Return for Kids, Charity Dinner. That gown is one of my absolute favorites that she has worn.

Cheers to Will and Kate!
